This homemade yogurt frosting is a delicious, lighter alternative to traditional buttercream. Made with Yoplait Original Vanilla yogurt, it’s the perfect topping for cakes, cupcakes, and more. Sweetened to your liking and easy to whip up, this frosting adds a fresh twist to your baked treats.

Ingredient List

  • 1 tub Yoplait Original Vanilla yogurt
  • 1–1 ½ cup powdered sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract

Preparation

  1. If you’d like thicker frosting, line a fine-mesh strainer with a paper towel and place the yogurt in it. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours to drain excess whey.
  2. In a bowl, combine the (strained) yogurt, powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Use a whisk or electric mixer to beat until smooth and creamy.
  3. Cover and refrigerate the frosting for at least 30 minutes to help it firm up before using.
  4. Spread or pipe the frosting onto cakes, cupcakes or other desserts once they’ve completely cooled.

Tips

  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Stir before using if it separates.
  • Start with 1 cup of powdered sugar and adjust to taste. Add the sugar in small increments, as it can quickly become too sweet.
  • Enhance the flavor by adding citrus zest (like lemon or orange) or a few drops of almond extract instead of vanilla.
  • Try adding food coloring to the frosting for special occasions. Add a drop or two, then mix until you reach your desired shade.
