By age 5 some children may start to have trouble digesting the natural sugar in milk called lactose. The live and active cultures in yogurt help break down lactose making yogurt a great way for kids who are lactose intolerant to enjoy dairy, plus get the calcium and other nutritional benefits yogurt offers.

Here are a few additional tips for the lactose intolerant:
  • Start with small portions and gradually work up.
  • Drink milk with meals or a snack, instead of on an empty stomach.
  • Try lactose-free and low-lactose milks.
